COUNTER-FLOW HEAT EXCHANGER FOR ADIABATIC COOLING

The Hydro model can be used as a counter-flow heat exchanger in winter with up to 90% efficiency, as well as in summer for an active cooling process through evaporation.

HYDRO HEAT EXCHANGER SOLUTION

Adiabatic heat exchangers consist of specially coated plates that are sprayed with water on the exhaust air side of the plate. This creates a condensation effect that cools the supply air down to 11°C in summer. The biggest advantage is that this method requires almost no power consumption. This allows these heat exchangers to be used in older houses without the need to change the electrical system.

BUILDING COOLING LOAD

Small and medium ventilation systems do not have active cooling systems. Therefore, the heat load during the hot period cannot be compensated by the passive cooling of the counter-flow heat exchanger. As a result, overheated ventilation systems do not work properly. This situation is typical for offices and negatively affects the well-being and ability to work of employees.

HOW AN AIR-COOLED HYDRO HEAT EXCHANGER WORKS
COOLING THROUGH EVAPORATION

The principle of operation of the Hydro recuperator is simple: water is sprayed, heated by the outside air, and evaporated. With the conversion of 19 liters of water to steam, up to 1 kW of cooling performance can be achieved.

HYGIENE

Due to the tight connection of the plates and the hermetic housing, water is sprayed only on the exhaust side and does not enter the supply airside. The water that has not evaporated is canalized in a condensation tub and then hygienically removed through a sewage system.

COUNTER-FLOW HYDRO HEAT EXCHANGER BRINGS AIR COMFORT IN WINTER AND SUMMER

  • At an outdoor air temperature of 35°C (blue line), the supply air temperature often reaches 30°C (red line) if traditional domestic ventilation systems are used.
  • Spraying water onto the extract air duct keeps the supply air temperature at a comfortable level of 21°C (green line).

In HVAC systems, counter-flow heat exchanger plates are sprayed with water through fixed nozzles. An electronic device controls the correct application of water quantity on the plate’s surface according to specific necessities. The hydro model can be used in both domestic ventilation systems and data center cooling systems.

The HX diagram shows that PCF Hydro acts as a cooler on the inlet airside. In most cases, active evaporative cooling is more than enough to provide a comfortable supply of air even on very hot days.
